On this day in 2011
Jasper looked at me and said “I love you” for the first time.

I know this might seem totally silly, but I’ve waited for this for the whole two years and three months that he’s been outside of the womb (and really, the whole 7 months he was inside it). I can’t tell you the number of times I’d say “I love you, Jasper” and he’d smile and give me a hug, or say “Love it, Mama” but never quite the actual words. Today he did something I can’t even remember, and I just said “Oh, Jasper. I love you” in response. He looked right at me and said “I love you” and I melted in eighty-five directions. Then he recreated the moment a few times, went outside to tell Sean that he loves him, told Kali he loves her, and then we went back up to the bedroom to recreate it again. He asked me to sit in the closet doorway where I was when he said it, and he would hold his hands up in the air and say “I…love..you!” and hug me. Over and over again.
